Groove Series: Sometime shortly after my experience with the “Severance man” I began drawing with markers. I drew all over my clothes and canvas hand bags. The three drawings that make up this series have people doing what looks like dancing or celebrating. This was as I entered a happier time in my life. I was moved out from my mother's home and in with the man who later became the father of my son. |
“Higher Consciousness”- This piece is particularly interesting to me. There is a tall masculine figure which a small female figure clings to, looking up seemingly longing for love and attention. Then a large half face with the saddest eye that looks away from this strange couple has a squatting figure upon it's head. |
“Untitled”- People are dancing, appear to be celebrating but still there is the presence of sadness and anger. |
“Lamont Smooth”- This was the name of the band that the father of my son belonged too. I followed them to almost every show. I would help them to carry the gear to and from the stage, set up, break down. The lyrics and I were kindred. They spoke of hallucinations, paranoia, pain, confusion, anger, mistakes, and a longing to be loved, to be found. |
